Nova Ukraine Empowers Veterans: Guide to Civilian Career Success Published in Ukraine

The war takes an unspeakable toll on everyone involved. If you are a soldier about to return to civilian life, the weight of uncertainties and expectations can feel insurmountable. Ukraine’s defenders need our support to determine a clear path forward that fulfills them as individuals and inspires them to continue serving Ukraine outside of the military.
Nova Ukraine took a step forward by helping publish a special manual for demobilized soldiers: “How to Achieve Career Success After Military Service.” Last month, our team served on the presentation panel for the manual at the National News Agency of Ukraine (Ukrinform). The manual is now available online on the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine’s website.
The manual provides practical recommendations and tools necessary for establishing future career/life paths, as well as outlines the next steps for achieving success in the chosen civilian field after completing military service. Hundreds of copies are being distributed through veteran spaces, the Ukrainian Veteran Fund, and local hubs.
In its thirteen chapters, the manual addresses many concerns, such as loss of faith after returning to civilian life, viewing civilian life as purposeless, and perceiving society as a collection of people who do not understand veterans’ problems. Considering the incredibly high material and emotional expectations for veterans reintegrating into civilian society, there is a clear need for additional resources for Ukraine’s defenders. This manual brings us closer to creating a multifaceted network of support that should help Ukrainian soldiers reconnect with life before the war.
The manual has been created based on practical experience using effective Ukrainian and American strategies for preparing service members for civilian life, as well as materials from the United States Department of Defense’s Transition Assistance Program.
